First-Time Boat Renter Guide for Lake Havasu
Everything to sort out before your first Havasu boat day.
Your checklist
- Decide on the vibe: a group cruise (party boat) or towing and open water (speed or ski boat).
- Know your group size, since every boat has a posted capacity.
- Ask the rental provider what's required to drive the boat and what the dock briefing covers.
- Plan an easy route for your first day: the London Bridge channel, then open water.
- Pack water, sunscreen, hats, snacks and ID for the person signing the rental.
- Check the forecast and plan to be back before afternoon wind builds.
Know the lake
Mornings are glassy
Early water is usually calmest, perfect for skiing or a quiet cruise.
Channel = slow
The Bridgewater Channel is busy and slow-speed. Idle through and check local rules.
Heat is real
Summer days run very hot. Pack more water than you think and plan shade.
Wind by afternoon
Breezes often build later in the day. Keep an eye on the sky and the forecast.
